Festa Major de GrąciaWhen: August
Where: Barcelona city
Festivals in Catalunya are often celebrated by a region or city and sometimes, as with the Festa Major de Gràcia, specific to a neighbourhood (barrio) within a city. Gràcia celebrates with street decorations, parades of traditional gegants (giants) and the correfoc, which involves locals dressing as demons and devils letting off fireworks in the streets. |
Festes de la MercčWhen: September

This week long festival at the end of September is the biggest and best of the year. There's regional food and wine in abundance at the Maremagnum complex near the port, street theatre, free outdoor concerts, parades of the gegants (Giants), the city's biggest correfoc and firework displays on the beach every evening. You'll need a holiday to get over this one. |
