Sporting Events in Catalunya
Below is a list of major international sporting events hosted in Catalunya and the dates they take place in 2007. It's a nation of keen sports enthusiasts and in addition to the listings below there are other sporting passions of Catalunya, most notably Football and Basketball, that take place throughout the relevant seasons. We will endeavour to keep you updated on any big matches, tournaments or events for these and other sports that may be of particular interest.
Barcelona Marathon (Marato Barcelona)

Open to all nationalities over 18 years of age
Catalan cycling week – (Setmana Catalana de Ciclisme)

Five stage international tour which starts in Lloret de Mar
Sailing Princess Sofia Trophy – Palma de Mallorca
late March – early April
Around 1,300 boats and 3,500 crew from 30 nations participate in this annual regatta held in the bay of Palma.
Spanish Grand Prix

The Circuit de Catalunya, north of Barcleona plays host to the Spanish Grand Prix with practice and grid time trials on the first day and the race on the second. Those holding a three day ticket also have access to the pit lane on May 10.
getting there
The easiest way to get to the Circuit de Catalunya is the 30 minute train journey from Barcelona Sants to Montmeló station from where you can walk to the circuit in approximately 20 minutes. There's also a coach service from central Barcelona operated by Sagalés. If you want to drive then take the AP-7 to junction 13 or 14 or the C17 and follow signs for the circuit.
Motorcycle racing – Gran Premi de Catalunya de MotoGP
6-8 June 2008
Round 7 of the Motorcycle MotoGP is held at the Circuit de Catalunya, north of Barcelona with practice and time trials on the 8th and 9th of June and the opportunity for those holding 3 day tickets to visit the pit lane on the afternoon of the 7th. Sailing - Copa del Rey (Kings Cup)
late July
Another of the seasons major regattas held in Palma de Mallorca.
Cycling - Vuelta a Espagna (Vuelta a España in Spanish)
throughout September
After the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia this is seen as the third most important road cycling stage race in the world and with 21 stages covering over 3000 kilometres it's not hard to see why. As the name implies it covers the whole of Spain and the route varies from year to year but there will almost always be at least one stage within Catalunya.
