Viva España - Spain through to Euro 2008 final
1964 was the last time Spain last won a major trophy and 1984 the last time they reached a final and with last last nights 3-0 victory over Russia one landmark has now been achieved. So many times before Spain have promised so much and delivered little, but a confident, exciting and skilful display against the Russians silenced all the doubters. In a close first half both teams played attacking, open football and at half-time it was anyone's. However five minutes after the break Xavi Hernández broke the deadlock and the course of the game changed. Spain seemed to swell with confidence and dominated from there on in with inevitable goals following from Daniel Güiza and David Silva. If Spain play like that in the final on Sunday Germany will have to be on the sort of form they have yet to find in these championships if they are to have any chance. (Fri 27 Jun 08)
