B-Estival

When: July 4-26 2007
Where: Barcelona

The second B-Estival to be held at the Poble Espanyol featuring jazz greats Al Jarreau and George Benson, Yousou N'Dour, John Mayall and Alpha Blondy.

European Balloon Festival

When: July
Where: Igualada

International hot air ballon meeting of 50 balloon teams competing over four days. Watch the balloons at dawn and dusk competing, also many exhibitions, workshops and music events. Don't miss the 'Night Glow' on 15th July at 10.00pm - a spectacular of balloons, music, lights and fireworks.

Festa de Sant Joan (Midsummer's Eve)

When: 23 June
Where: Barcelona city

Celebrations to mark the longest day lead into a very long night. Bonfires on the beaches, fireworks throughout the city and generally one big party.

Festa Major de Grącia

When: August
Where: Barcelona city

Festivals in Catalunya are often celebrated by a region or city and sometimes, as with the Festa Major de Gràcia, specific to a neighbourhood (barrio) within a city. Gràcia celebrates with street decorations, parades of traditional gegants (giants) and the correfoc, which involves locals dressing as demons and devils letting off fireworks in the streets.

Festes de la Mercč

When: September
Where: Barcelona city

This week long festival at the end of September is the biggest and best of the year. There's regional food and wine in abundance at the Maremagnum complex near the port, street theatre, free outdoor concerts, parades of the gegants (Giants), the city's biggest correfoc and firework displays on the beach every evening. You'll need a holiday to get over this one.
